5 Tips For Moving In The Fall

Fall is a great time to move to the Lake of the Ozarks. The busy season is behind us, leaving less competition and more options. In addition, the hot, humid season is gone, which makes for a much more enjoyable move. However, if moving during the fall season, there are a few things that you need to take into consideration. Your Lake of the Ozarks real estate agent offers seven tips to help you during your fall move.

1. Have A Clear Path

Although the bright colored leaves make for a beautiful scenery, they could be hazardous while moving boxes. During your move, make sure you have a nice clear path, especially if it has recently rained. Wet leaves can quickly become slick, which could cause issues for people carrying heavy objects/boxes. Before you start packing up the car, make sure you sweep the sidewalk and driveway and do it again before unpacking and moving into your new home.

2. Dress Appropriately

The cooler weather is quickly approaching, which makes it nice for moving. However, you need to remember to dress for the weather. Layers are a good idea, as they will keep you warm in the cool morning, but if you need too, you can take off an item as it gets warmer. Rain can also be an issue during the fall season, so make sure you wear something that will keep you covered if you do get caught in it.

3. Give Yourself Enough Time

During the fall, there is less sunlight, so make sure you give yourself and movers enough time to take care of the moving tasks when there is plenty of sunlight. Take note of when the sun rises and sets, so you can take full advantage of the shortened daylight hours.

4. Plan Ahead

Moving can be a hectic and stressful time, so make sure you think ahead. There will be colder weather, so it is a good idea to set up your utilities in advance. You do not want to arrive at your new home and freeze all night because the heater isn't turned on. Having your utilities turned on before moving in will make the first night in your new home go much smoother. Electricity and gas should be the first things you want, but it will be easier to have everything done at the same time, so nothing gets forgotten. Make a list of all the utilities you need to switch over including their phone number and the account number to make it easy.

5. Make The Transition Easy

If you have kids, the one downside of moving in the fall is that the school year has already started. Try to make the transition as easy as possible for them by planning ahead. Talk to your children about the move, so you can answer any questions they might have about it. If possible, contact the school they are switching too and ask for information about their new teacher(s). It may be a good idea to request any assignments or material they can work on, so they are up to speed when they start.
