Thanksgiving Weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks

Thanksgiving is almost here.  A time for gathering with those that you love and being thankful for all of the good things in your life.  Once you recover from the food coma that often accompanies this holiday, you really should get out and do something to celebrate the beginning of the holiday season.  Living at the Lake of the Ozarks offers residents a wide variety of incredible things to do.  




December will bring even more holiday excitement, but Thanksgiving weekend is already filled with a full list of fun things to do in the Lake area.  Whether you own a home at the Lake of the Ozarks full-time or live here part-time, there are plenty of things going on for you to join in.  Gather together your family and friends and enjoy as many of these as you possibly can.   


OSAGE BEACH


Deck the Docks Holiday Light Cruise:  Nov. 27 - Dec. 30

This is the 5th year that the Celebration cruise ship has offered this evening cruise to benefit the Dogwood Animal Shelter.  $25 allows you to take a leisurely cruise around to lake to view all of the decorated docks and waterfront homes. Appetizers, live music, and a cash bar are a part of the experience.  Reservations are required, and they book up quickly.  If you would like more information, call 573-480-3212.


Osage Beach Holiday Lights:  Nov. 28 - Jan. 3

Themed light displays will fill the Osage Beach City Park, as well as many locations up and down Osage Beach Parkway.  A pretty trip in the car near the outlet mall and lots of holiday shopping.  



The Nutcracker Ballet:  Nov. 28 & 29

The 15th annual performance of the Nutcracker Ballet for Steps Dance Studio will take place at the School of the Osage in Cummings Auditorium.  This year dancers from Xanadu Dance Studio in Camdenton will also join them.  Reserved tickets may be purchased for $12-$15, and general admission is $10.  Saturday's performance is at 6:00 pm, and Sunday the curtain rises at 2:00 pm.  To find out more, please call 573-348-9175.  


Main Street Music Hall Christmas Show:  Nov. 27 - Dc. 20

The talented entertainers at the Main Street Opry will be performing their much anticipated Christmas show beginning Thanksgiving weekend.  It's full of both music and comedy, and most definitely fun for all ages.  7:00 pm shows are Tuesday-Saturday, and a Sunday matinee takes place at 3:00 pm.  Located in the Landing on Main Street, the box office opens on show dates at 10:00 am.  You can find out more at 573-348-9500 or 800-348-9501.    




CAMDENTON


Christmas Village at Old Kinderhook:  Nov. 27 - Dec. 20

Old Kinderhook features the area's only outdoor ice skating rink, and on weekends during the above dates you can also enjoy lots of other enjoyable activities.  You can take part in s'mores around the fire pit, gingerbread house making, and elf storytelling.  They will also have carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, and visits with Santa.  You can find out more by calling 573-317-4314.     

Lake Area Community Orchestra:  Nov. 29

Incredibly talented local musicians join together to bring you some wonderful holiday entertainment.  They perform many times in various locations throughout the season.  You can find a full list of show locations and times on the website, but the first performance for the year will happen at the Community Christian Church at 7:00 pm.   


ELDON


Eldon Christmas Celebration:  Nov. 21

This festive event begins with a holiday parade at 10:00 am bringing Santa Clause to town.  The Eldon Community Center will have its doors open from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm offering face painting, ornament making, food, entertainment, and pictures with Santa.  



LAURIE


Enchanted Village of Lights:  Nov. 20 - Jan. 2

This 27-acre holiday drive-through light display is at the Laurie Fairgrounds.  Last year over 5,700 vehicles passed through, bringing along over 19,000 visitors. There is no charge to enjoy the light display, but donations are greatly appreciated and used to buy more displays for the future, making it an even bigger and better sight to see.  Contact the City of Laurie for more information.  573-374-8776.    

St. Patrick's Festival of Lights:  Nov. 26 - Jan. 1

Also greatly known for their Mother's Shrine, the St. Patrick Catholic Church has been putting on a beautiful Christmas light display since 1981.  You can view their over 4,000 strings of lights from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm daily at no charge.
