Back to School: Considering a School District

It’s about that time! As school is starting back up, it’s time to think about the quality of your local school district. In your home-buying decision, even if you don’t currently have children in grade school or high school, it’s very important to consider the type of school district your future home will be located in. It’s never a good idea to purchase a home based on one singular reason, such as a good school district. By working with a great real estate agent at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can gain several vital insights and details about the schools nearby and how to strategically purchase your home at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Good vs. Great

Based on recent reports, it may not be the best idea to settle on a home in the best school district in the area. The homes in great school districts might already be appreciated and may not help to raise the value of your home at all. A good school district has more potential to become great versus a great school district to become even greater. By investing in a home that is in a good school district AND includes the other items on your checklist, you will have more of a positive change for the school district to get better without sacrificing your other requirements. Many different factors can have a positive impact on your local schools and real estate value.

Educational & Social Opportunities

Living in a solid school district gives your children the opportunity to receive a worthwhile education. More often than not, if you choose a home in a neighborhood within a quality school district, there will be more families living near you who also have school-aged children. This can encourage a healthy social life for your children, even outside of the classroom. Even if you don't have children in school, if you decide to sell your home in the future, your buyers might! Being located in a good area within a good school district might be the make or break for a potential buyer.

Reach Out

School’s test scores can’t always paint the entire picture of what a school district is like. Reaching out to parents in the area to get a first-hand opinion of the school district is a great way to understand the pros and cons. There are also several websites that can help give great insight into school districts around your area. Inquire about things like the distance from school, where the bus stops are, and technology policies.

After living in the area for 13 years, I’d say I know this area well! My children went to school locally as well.
