This Summer's Hottest Events at the Lake of the Ozarks
If you've experienced the increased traffic levels the past couple of weekends, you know first-hand that summer is slowly but steadily picking up steam at the Lake of the Ozarks. If you own a second home or a waterfront condo at the Lake of the Ozarks, you're probably already deep in the planning process for all your trips to the Lake this season. Even if you aren't the proud owner of a second home (yet?), you may still be planning your trips to come down and enjoy all that our beautiful area has to offer. Here is a quick look at some of the events you may want to plan to attend this summer.

Memorial Day Weekend
Friday, May 27th - Monday, May 30th, 2016
Memorial Day is typically viewed as the official kick-off to the summer season, and it's easy to see why. Resorts and restaurants all over the Lake Area plan spectacular fireworks displays and other events for this exciting holiday. Some of the locations offering fireworks displays this year include Old Kinderhook, Bear Bottom Resort, The Inn at Grand Glaize, Tan-Tar-A Resort, and The Lodge at Four Seasons. No matter where you choose to celebrate, this year should be one for the record books.
Lake Race
Thursday, June 2nd - Sunday, June 5th, 2016
Lake Race is one of the most thrilling events of the summer season. Hundreds of spectators will gather to watch phenomenal power boats compete for the grand prize - but the fun doesn't stop there. Participants will also get to see the boats up close and personal on the Strip, and there will also be a 5k run and a poker run on different days of the event.
Hot Summer Nights
May - September, 2016
Hot Summer Nights is always a favorite event among both locals and tourists - in fact, it won Best Annual Event in the Lake Lifestyles Readers Poll for 2016! It's a unique opportunity for families with parents and children of all ages to gather on the Strip and enjoy a car show, helicopter rides, face painting, shopping, dining, live entertainment, and so much more. Better yet, admission is free for the whole family! The remaining dates for this summer's events are June 10th, July 8th, August 12th, and September 9th.
Canine Cannonball
Thursday, June 16th - Sunday, June 19th
Calling all dog lovers! This jam-packed and fun-filled event is perfect for anyone with a dog who likes to jump - or anyone who enjoys all the fun that their furry friends have to offer. Canine athletes from all over the region will gather at Dog Days Bar & Grill to compete in various categories, including Big Air, Extreme Vertical, and Speed Retrieve. Even if your dogs aren't competing, they are welcome to attend as long as they're on leashes.
Independence Day Weekend
Friday, July 1st - Monday, July 4th
Fireworks over the Lake of the Ozarks - there's nothing like it. 4th of July is the perfect opportunity soak in some more spectacular fireworks displays over the water, either from out on the water or from on dry land. Though the official event schedules for this weekend are still in the works, many different locations will be hosting their massive displays.
AuquaPalooza
Saturday, July 16th, 2016
AquaPalooza is truly an event in its own category. It's a giant (FREE!) concert held outside on the water at the Lake of the Ozarks, conveniently located at Dog Days Bar & Grill in the heart of Osage Beach. The official details for this year's concert haven't been released yet, but the venue typically features several different classic rock tribute bands who perform all your favorite hits from the 70s and 80s. This year seems to get bigger and better every year, and 2016 should be no exception.
Great Dam Duck Drop
Friday, August 5th & Saturday, August 6th
The Great Dam Duck Drop is a two-part event. The festivities begin on Friday with a fun-filled golf tournament, and continue through Saturday with a family fun zone and a chance to win $5,000 cash! Proceeds from both events benefit the Ozarks Coast Kiwanis Club, which in turn supports countless local charity organizations including CADV, Kids Harbor, Lake Area Big Brothers Big Sisters, Wonderland Camp, and more.
Midwest Wine & Brew Festival
Saturday, August 20th, 2016
Easily one of Missouri's most recognizable summer event, this one is perfect for all wine and beer aficionados. Wineries and breweries from all over Missouri will gather for this great event, allowing attendees the chance to sample beverages from all over the area. Live entertainment, vendors, and food will also be available. Contact the Lake Area Chamber for more information about this event.
Lake of the Ozarks Shootout
Saturday, August 27th - Sunday, August 28th, 2016
If you enjoyed Lake Race, you're going to LOVE the Shootout. This adrenaline-pumping power boat race event will attract over 100 racers and 100,000 spectators. Best of all, proceeds from the event will benefit Lake Area Rescue Teams and other local charity organizations. In addition to the races, the Shootout events will include a golf tournament, treasure hunt, street party, poker run, and so much more.
Lake of the Ozarks Air Show
September 10, 2016
If you have an airplane enthusiast or a veteran in your family, this event is for you. The Air Show is a day of celebrating our military, aviation, and more. This event will feature multiple air show acts, a ping pong drop, vendor booths, and plenty of kid-centered activities. It's definitely one for the whole family!
10th Annual Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest
Thursday, September 15th - Sunday, September 18th, 2016
Calling all bikers! Whether you have been a motorcycle enthusiast for years or have just recently discovered your love of motorbikes, Bikefest is definitely an event that you won't want to miss. Our area offers over 200 biker-friendly restaurants and bars and spectacular scenic rides, and the event itself will also include several great parties, vendors, and of course several great concerts at night.
